Here’s your guide to what’s on in London this week on woZZon.

Film: The American

George Clooney once again reprises his favourite role as the outsider in this gripping thriller by Anton Corbijn. Following the success of his award-winning film Control, director Anton Corbijn began exploring the possibility of a thriller about a lonesome man looking for redemption. In this adaptation of Martin Booth’s 1990 novel 'A Very Private Gentleman', the film's protagonist is assassin Jack (George Clooney) who is constantly on the move and always alone. Jack is a master craftsman and when a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, he vows to his contact Larry (Bruce Altman) that his next assignment will be his last. He relishes being away from death for a spell as he holes up in a small medieval town. While laying low, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten). Savouring the peaceful quiet he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack and Clara’s time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

Comedy: John Shuttleworth: A Man With No More Rolls

John Shuttleworth has been dubbed Sheffield's 'finest synthesizer player' in certain quarters of the press. Quite a claim, considering the number of synthpop pioneers from the area. What is certain is that he far outclasses the likes of fellow Sheffielders The Human League and Heaven 17 when it comes to swirling electronic melodies and piercing laser-like lyrics. But musical matters are not Shuttleworth's prime concern with this tour. Instead, he has decided to instruct our ConDem Nation in ethical matters. Well, he would have done - had next-door neighbour and sole agent Ken Worthington not mistyped the show's title, turning 'morals' into 'more rolls'. John's reaction to this mishap was typically philosophical. At least now his new show can consider not just the nation's moral decline, but the vast range of exotic breads appearing in the high street, as the humble roll fades into obscurity. Paninis, ciabattas, pittas... even the peshwari naan, inspiring his exciting new ballad 'How's your nan?'.

Film: White Christmas

This seasonal musical classic stars Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye as two ex-servicemen who create a successful Broadway musical. They pick up two girls along the way (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) who they include in the show. The film is very much a warm fuzzy chance to throw a lot of Technicolor and musical numbers together. It features favourite songs such as 'Sisters', and of course, the timeless classic 'White Christmas' sung by Crosby. A dead cert to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Theatre: Season's Greetings

Alan Ayckbourn - the king of English stage comedy in the '70s. He's been somewhat out of fashion these past two decades, not helped by a slew of unsatisfying forays into sci-fi. But Seasons Greetings remains evergreen - a viciously funny expose of the miseries of an average family Christmas: the cheating at snakes and ladders, the fighting over comic books, bungled infidelities beneath the tree. Add a sprinkle of some of the UK's finest current comedy talent to the cast - including Catherine Tate, Katherine Parkinson of The IT Crowd, and The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss - and this production will doubtless feel as cutting-edge a Christmas pud spiked with razor-sharp lucky charms.

Musical: The Snowman

This performance is based on The Snowman book by Raymond Briggs. The popular tale was brought to fame in 1982 when it was made into a cartoon for Channel 4. It tells the story of a boy who discovers that the snowman he build the night before has come alive. In a most memorable scene they take a flight together whilst the song 'Walking In The Air' is played, and go to visit Father Christmas. This stage adaptation includes the flying and the iconic song in a magical Christmas show.

Music: Imogen Heap

Electro-pop? Indie? Electronic-classical? Synth-pop? It's hard to put a name to Imogen Heap's sound, but whatever it is, it sounds good. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is perhaps best known for her song Hide and Seek, which was featured in popular teen drama series The OC, and recently sampled in Jason Derulo's international hit single 'Whatcha Say'. Thanks to these factors, the Havering songstress is a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Fans of Heap's work may wonder how her lush, sweeping electronic sounds can be authentically performed live - but Heap's live show is something to truly marvel at. Jumping from keyboards to laptops and from traditional instruments to ones that look like something out of a 70s sci-fi TV show, Heap replicates the intricate sounds of her records whilst at the same time delivering a flawless vocal performance. Live music at its most mind-boggling.
